There’s been a lot of smoke about expansion and dis-expansion (retraction doesn’t really work and this is where I’m really wanting that Oxford American Writer’s Thesaurus I heard about from my friend Dave) in various leagues around the country, leading to the apparently prevelant belief that by gawd there must be fire. I thought I’d weigh in on the discussion and give you, dear reader, therealnesshurts.com’s official stance on the subject:
I’m not saying nothing’s going to happen: clearly the Big Ten and Pac Ten are more earnest in their desire to add teams and join the legitimate and be-conference-championship-game-ed league’s of the world then ever before. But this is one of those situations where the journalists at papers whose readership is slowly in decline are gunning for some job security and placing their bets on the off chance that, hey, they could get lucky, guess right, and later claim credibility.
Which good for them.
But fuck if I’m buying any of it. I’m sure there will be some movement on the expansion front, probably soonish, certainly within the next decade (when was the last time a decade went by without realignment?), certainly involving some of the teams and leagues that are getting bandied about. But nobody knows anything yet. The two Ten’s (Big and Pac…wait, we’re still talking football, right?) probably have their lists of schools to contact, sure, but can’t we at least wait until there is a list of viable, properly contacted candidates? This goes, in particular, for everyone in Big XII country, a population who seem to have largely accepted the fact of their league’s dissolution in the wake of the Ten’s plucking activities. Let’s wait until they start plucking.
Your tears are my warmth on this most frigid of nights.
Honestly, I do feel for you, really. I mean, what fan base could deserve this treatment. Maybe Colorado. Maybe.
But the stages of denial and revisionism in this video…priceless.
Well, Mr. Kiffin, I think I speak for all of Vol nation when I say thank you for serving the university, even for as short of a time as you did, and best of…luck…what the fuck is that noise?
Also, he’s apparently going to play today, despite having a separated shoulder and not practicing all week, because he is tougher than most humans (start the Brett Favre comparisons in 3, 2, 1…).
Welcome to therealnesshurts.com. This site used to exist over here. It was poorly updated and rarely read. The new digs are much better and hopefully the content will follow suite.
There will be other bloggers along shortly. I’ll let them handle whatever introductions they feel appropriate themselves. Hopefully, this site will be updated with new content at least twice a week, maybe more (everything’s still kind of fluid on that front). But I needed to get the site up and ready for blogging if anything was ever going to happen and now that’s done. So check back soon for real, bone fide posting of the humorous and sports-related variety.
The realness hurts is a blog dedicated, in the spirit of the great Randy Moss from whose sacred lips our name was once uttered, to hoisting a magnificent middle finger to the established sports media of America in the form of smart and original writing about the only thing that really matters in life: competition between people more athletically gifted than ourselves.
